Next Generation Producers Vlog

Teens, want to learn to make films? The SAYMedia! afterschool workshop for Somerville youth is the place to be. The class explores the role of media in our culture. Students learn how to create documentary films, music videos, commercials, and movie trailers from start to finish using SCAT's professional digital media facilities. Over the course of the workshops students develop their own project plans and produce their own videos. Students learn how to develop a topic and storyline, pick a location, gain their subjects' trust, ask effective questions, understand shot composition, shoot for maximum editing flexibility, and be aware of ethical considerations.

Upcoming Class

NEXT GENERATION PRODUCERS Summer Youth Program

July - August - Tuesdays and Thursdays, Noon - 4PM

Want to make a music video? Have an interesting story or idea for a documentary video? Always wanted to know how to use a video camera and editing equipment to add music, titles, and fun effects? This class is for you!

Students will learn to use state-of-the-art media technology, including digital video equipment and a three camera studio to create community media projects. They will learn all the elements of production, from scripting to computer editing, and explore the roles of media in their lives. The teens will work together in a creative environment where team-work and mutual respect play essential roles in the success of each project. Projects, chosen by participants, may include creating music videos, dramas, documentaries, and movie trailers.

The program is free with a SCAT youth membership of $20.

The program will be taught by Dacia Kornechuk who has her MFA from Boston University in Documentary FIlmmaking and Prince Charles, who has his degree from New England Institute of Technology and Digital Recording Arts, who has been making videos for over 10 years with a focus on music video production.
