Documentary Production Internship

Job Description

Assist in the production of short documentary-style programs about Somerville, including immigrant issues,
youth violence, arts activities and City development for cablecast on SCAT Channel 3. This internship is an
excellent opportunity to improve video production skills and develop a resume of video projects.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Work with staff to develop program ideas and production schedule
• Research topic and create production plan
• Operate SCAT camera, audio and lighting equipment during field shoots
• Scriptwriting
• Edit programs
• Other duties as assigned

General Job Requirements: Some experience with video production, including camera, audio, lighting preferred. Some non-linear editing with Final Cut Express or iMovie preferred. Well organized, self-motivated and good writing skills.

Education and/or Experience: Video production and/or journalism experience and organiztion and writing skills.

Language Skills: English. Additional ability to speak Creole, Portuguese and/or Spanish a plus.

Technical Skills: Computer literate. Some proficiency with Final Cut Express and/or iMovie and digital video cameras preferred.

Physical Demands: Some lifting may be required.

Cablecast Internship

Job Description

Interns will gain experience in managing a busy videotape traffic area, in troubleshooting technical problems with equipment,
in database management, in community relations, in website management and in videographic design. Positions will be
most rewarding for those interested in community service via community media.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Assist staff with the 24/7 programming of the SCAT public access Channel 3
• Assist staff with videotape traffic: receiving and cataloguing videotapes from producers when they're dropped off,
  and returning them when producers stop in for tape pick-ups
• Assist staff in handling inquiries from the public at-large about what out channels carry, and informing them about our
  programming policies and procedures, including how they can get their own shows and announcements on our channels
• Assist staff with design and operation of the Community Bulletin Board (computer-generated screens appearing
  between programs)
• Work with staff on maintaining programming website pages
• Other duties as assigned

General Job Requirements: Basic knowledge of video systems and operation, ability to communicate well with SCAT's diverse
members, good communication skills and attention to detail.

Education and/or Experience: Understanding of videotape systems preferred.

Language Skills: English. Additional ability to speak Creole, Portuguese and/or Spanish a plus.

Technical Skills: Computer literate, MAC 0S9 a plus.
