Massachusetts has a wealth of public cable access centers. In 1972, and again in 1982, community activitists in Somerville, Massachusetts were some of the first in the country to organize for public access to the telecommunications infrastructure and develop independent non-profit management for cable access. Bolstered and educated by their success, these access leaders assisted other cities and towns to mobilize and negogiate cable agreements that provided for public, educational, and government access.

Massachusetts access centers are so dense that they are able to collaborate and work together for support, training, and furthering public policy initiatives.
